Dan McSweeney built his first home in Ottawa for his family at 88 Ontario Street in 1947. Quickly gaining a reputation for quality and fair prices, families from all over the city were calling on him to build homes for them. He went on to build multi-unit residential buildings in Carlington, homes in Alta Vista, Glen Cairn, and on the avenues off Tremblay road. His five sons came on board as they built homes in his Brookfield Gardens development. When it came time for Dan's third and fourth generations to build a meaningful family business, they didn't have to look too far into their roots before settling on residential construction.
"My first job was as a general labourer for my father's construction company", said Dan's grandson Marty McSweeney (founder of McSweeney Residential). "Moving on to spend 12 years in residential real estate, I eventually missed the smell of sawdust, and decided it was time to do what I really enjoy- helping people improve their homes". Growing up with a General Contractor as a father, and a mother who's an Interior Designer, it wasn't a difficult decision for Marty. Combining his expertise in residential real estate, and passion for improving homes, Marty has assembled a team of local craftsmen dedicated to producing the highest quality workmanship, with special attention to timelines, as the McSweeney heritage insists.

McSweeney continues, "Too often as a real estate agent, I would see major renovations done to homes that actually caused a decrease in the value of the property. In some rare cases, it may make sense to make the home more suited to the homeowner's specific use, even if it has a negative impact on value. However, in many cases, this is simply overlooked. We want to ensure that homeowners are clear going into a project what financial impacts their modifications may have."
